# Blocks

> Everything on the canvas is a block.

Add blocks from the toolbar on the left (the **+** button on mobile): Note, Sketch, Code, Image, Link, Video, File, Audio, Board, Composite block, and Arrow.

You can also double-click empty canvas for a note, paste text, links, or images, or drop files onto the board.

## Note

Double-click to type. Select a note and open **Text formatting** for style, headings, alignment, and font (18 Google Fonts). Highlight text while editing to format just that part.

New notes are plain text on the canvas. Pick a background color to turn one into a card.

## Code

Syntax highlighting for 19 languages, with a language picker and word wrap toggle. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, JSON, and YAML are auto-formatted when you paste or click away.

## Image and Video

Upload a file or click **Search** to find stock photos and video from Pexels. Pick several images at once and the extras are laid out as new blocks. Add a caption below any image or video.

## Audio

Upload a file or click **Search** for sound effects (Freesound) or songs (Spotify). See [Find media](/find-media).

## File

Upload a PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Markdown, or text file. Click it to preview.

## Link

Paste a URL to get a preview card with title, image, and site. Videos from sites like YouTube play inline.

## Sketch

Double-click to draw full screen. Pen and touch are pressure-sensitive. One finger pans, two fingers zoom. Includes pen, eraser, ink color, stroke width, and undo.

## Board

Opens a nested sub-board. See [Projects and boards](/projects-boards).

## Composite block

Groups blocks under one title, in 1 to 6 columns. Drag blocks in or out, reorder rows, and add new ones from **Add block**. Boards, composites, arrows, and sketches can't go inside.

## Arrow

Add an arrow, then drag its ends onto blocks. If a block is selected, the arrow starts from it. Ends snap to connection points on each side.
