# Connect external AI

> Use Grein from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

Grein has an MCP server. Connected assistants can read and edit your projects as you, and their edits show up live for anyone on the board.

Most clients sign in with OAuth: add the URL, then click **Allow access** on Grein's consent page. No token needed.

## Claude

**Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector**, paste the URL, click **Connect**, and approve.

## ChatGPT

Turn on Developer Mode, add a custom connector with the URL, and sign in.

## Claude Code

Then run `/mcp` and sign in.

## Cursor and other clients

Add an HTTP MCP server with the URL. If the client doesn't support OAuth, use an access token instead.

## Access tokens

Go to **Settings → Connections**, name a token, and click **Create token**. Copy it right away. Send it as a header:

## What assistants can do

| Tool | Does |
| - | - |
| `get_account` | Shows the signed-in account |
| `list_projects` | Lists your and shared projects, with your role |
| `create_project` / `update_project` | Creates or edits a project |
| `delete_project` | Moves a project to Trash for 30 days, where you can restore it (owner only) |
| `get_canvas` | Reads a board, including nested boards |
| `search_blocks` | Finds blocks by text, URL, id, or type |
| `apply_canvas_actions` | Creates, edits, moves, connects, and deletes blocks in one batch |
| `search_media` | Searches Pexels, Freesound, and Spotify |
| `list_project_messages` / `send_project_message` | Reads and sends project chat |
| `get_canvas_guidance` | Layout rules for tidy boards |

Roles still apply: viewers get read-only access.

## Revoke access

In **Settings → Connections**, **Disconnect** an app under **Connected apps** or **Revoke** a token. It stops working within a minute.
